Political Parties Call For Fairness In EC Investigations

Political Parties in Ghana have called on Chief Justice Sophia A.B. Akuffo to exercise fairness in the the ongoing disagreement between top officials of the Electoral Commission.

Adding their voices to the need for peace in the confines of the EC, political parties have said that the inactivities in the Electoral Commission (EC) can have serious consequences on the country's electoral calendar and undermine its hard earned democratic credentials.

They also added that the Chief Justices' fairness and deligennce in the ongoing investigation was the only means by which peace and understanding could be fostered amongst the three Top officials: EC Boss Madam Charlotte Osei, Mr. Amadu Sulley and Mrs Georgina Opoku Amankwa.

The parties are the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Convention People’s Party (CPP), the People’s National Convention (PNC), the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) and the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), as well as an independent presidential candidate in the 2016 elections, Mr Jacob Osei-Yeboah.

Prof Mike Oquaye to lead NPP’s Vetting Committee

  The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has established a Vetting Committee to examine and approve potential presidential aspirants seeking to lead the party for the 2024 general election. The committee is expected to start work from July 3 to July 6, 2023.   As it stands now 11 presidential aspirants have picked nomination forms with only two filing as at Friday, June 16, 2023.  Alan Kwadwo Kyeremate, former Trade and Industry Minister was the first to file after paying GH¢300,000, followed by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia on Friday.   According to Article 10(3)(F) of the NPP’s constitution, the Vetting Committee will include members chosen from different directorates of the party.   The committee consist of appointed statutory members, the Chairpersons of Standing Committees of the National Council, three members selected by the National Council, and representatives from other important sectors of the NPP.   Heading the Vetting Committee is Professor Mike Aaron...
