NDC to contest Assin North By-Election with Gyakye Quayson as parliamentary candidate

The  National Democratic Congress has asserted the party's readiness for Assin North by-Eeection. In a recent interview on the Eyewitness News program hosted by Umaru Sanda Amadu on Citi FM, Mustapha Gbande, the party's Deputy National Secretary reaffirmed the party's determination to participate in the upcoming Assin North by-election. Gbande vehemently dismissed allegations suggesting that James Gyakye Quayson had been replaced as the NDC's parliamentary candidate for the constituency. He emphasized that the party intends to field Quayson once again, highlighting his credibility and popularity among the constituents. Parliament declares Assin North seat vacant

Parliament has officially declared the Assin North seat vacant, according to a letter addressed to the Electoral Commission (EC) from the Clerk of Parliament, Cyril Kwabena Oteng Nsiah on Monday, May 29, as confirmed by sources from MyJoyOnline.com. The decision to declare the seat vacant was based on the recent ruling and directives issued by the Supreme Court. The apex court had instructed Parliament to remove James Gyakye Quayson's name from its records. The court concluded that Quayson, who had failed to renounce his Canadian citizenship at the time of filing his nomination forms for the parliamentary elections, was ineligible to hold the Assin North seat. Justice Jones Dotse, the presiding judge, delivered the verdict on Wednesday, May 17, after a case was filed by Michael Ankomah Nimfah, a resident of the constituency. Special Prosecutor invites ‘money spraying’ NDC MP aspirant over suspected case of corruption

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has invited the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP aspirant for Ejura Sekyeredumase ,  Juliana Kinang Wassan ,  over a suspected case of corruption. The MP aspirant who lost to the incumbent MP Muhammad Bawah Braimah  was  seen in a viral video standing in a car showering cash on the people who flung her at the Ahmadiya School Park where voting was ongoing. Eye witness reports , there was a mad rush for the money which ranges from GH¢10 notes to GH¢100 notes. According to  Juliana Wassan ,  she realised she had the money in her car and decided to show love to her fellow NDC members by sharing the cash. This caught the attention of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyabeng. NDC primaries: Kojo Bonsu backs Duffuor’s call to postpone elections

Flagbearer  hopeful  for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kojo Bonsu  has expressed worry    about some anomalies which he says exist in the party’s voter register. According to him, these suspected infractions have the propensity to affect the primaries set for Saturday, May 13, 2023. Mr. Bonsu’s  concerns come in the wake of a writ filed at an Accra High Court by Dr Kwabena Duffour indicating that the party failed to provide the required photo album register five weeks ahead of the elections as stated in the party’s rules. The former Finance Minister  who is also contesting in the presidential primaries  asked the party to postpone its upcoming presidential and parliamentary primaries scheduled for Saturday, May 13.  Mr Bonsu shared this sentiment  i n an interview on Kumasi-based OTEC FM .
