Court Orders Siezure of Phones- Koku Anyidoho

The Accra High Court has called on the Criminal Investigations Department(CID) to seize all electronic gadgets of Koku Anyidoho for investigative purposes. Koku Anyidoho the Deputy General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress(NDC) is facing charges of treason for daring to organise a civilian revolt that was geared towards the overthrow of  the incumbent government headed by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The Deputy General Secretary was arrested on Tuesday and has since been in the custody of the Bureau of  National Investigations as officers continue with investigations into the revolt allegations. NDC Sold Ghana in 1998 and 2015 -Hon Dominic Nitiwul to Minority

Defence Minister, Hon Dominic Nitiwul, has lambasted the minority in parliament for displaying an attitude he describes as "hypocritical" towards the military agreement between Ghana and U.S. The Minister mentioned that the Memorandum of Understanding between Ghana and U.S was not to establish a U.S  military base  in Ghana but was a military partnership with the U.S. Minority in parliament have argued saying that the decision of government to join forces with the U.S military  would only cause Ghana to sell its sovereignty. Meanwhile Hon Nitiwul has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) bid in Minority saying that they should blame themselves because they sold Ghana in 1998 under the Rawlings administration and in 2015 in the Mahama led administration. Ghana Commits to Free Trade- President Akuffo Addo

President Akuffo Addo in a meeting with the Assembly of Heads of  State and government of the African Union on the 21st of March has expressed Ghana's unfailing commitment towards the success of the Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA) after its formal lunch in Rwanda and Kigali. He mentioned that Ghana was willing to host the CFTA Secretariat in Accra and added that it was time Africans came together to strengthen the bond of integration to make the African Union(AU) politically and economically successful. The AU was formed about fifty five years ago to liberate the African Continent from Colonial rule. The AU now champions the collective interest of African continent in the global community. Bank Of Ghana Assures Clients Of UniBank their Monies are Safe

Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr. Ernest Kwamina Addison has announced to the general public that the takeover of Unibank by the Central Bank was as a result of several challenges the bank was facing. He added that challenges such as weak supervisory standards and weak operations of the bank led to its takeover by the central bank. Dr. Ernest Kwamina Addison  assured all clients who have their deposits with UniBank that their monies are safe and added that Clients could continue banking with other branches of UniBank. Agricult Lithovit Fertilizer Was Not Tested Before Use- Standard Authority Reveals

The Attorney General last week leveled 27 charges on the former Chief Executive Officer of Cocoa Board Dr. Stephen Kwabena Opuni including willfully causing financial loss to the state. The Ghana Standard Authority together with other institutions have confirmed that the Agricult Lithovit Fertilizer contracted from Agricult Ghana Limited by Cocobod was contaminated and could not be classified as Fertilizer. Investigations from the Chemistry Department of the University of Ghana also indicates that the amount of Lithovit found in the sample examined was very small and could compromise the outcome of its application on cocoa farms. The Department explained further that aside being harmful, it was not tested by the Cocoa Resaerch Institute of Ghana (CRIG) before its approval. Cabinet Agrees to the Establishment of U.S Military Base in Ghana

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defence cooperation between Ghana and the United States has been placed before parliament for debate and approval. The document was signed by cabinet on the 8 th of March 2018 and it's yet to be approved by parliament. The MoU between Ghana and United States if approved by parliament would permit the stay of American Military Forces in the country. Aside attaining permit, the military would be exempted from paying tax on equipment brought into Ghana;  be allowed to set their own telecommunication system; authorised to control entry to the facilities meant for exclusive use of their forces; allows U.S. forces and their contractors to undertake construction activities on and make alterations and improvements to agreed facilities and areas amongst others.    Meanwhile the document has been sent to parliament by the Minister of Defence Mr Dominic Nitiwul to be debated upon and approved. Cabinet Approves RTI bill to be Set before Parliament

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has disclosed that cabinet has approved the Right to Information Bill and it has been sent to parliament for debate and approval. His announcement comes after increased agitations from civil groups, like the Right to Information Coalition that Penplusbytes is part of, pushing for the passage of the Bill, which has been on the shelves for nearly two decades. Right to Information is a fundamental human right guaranteed by the country’s 1992 constitution and recognised as a right under the International Conventions on Human Rights. The rationale behind the bill is to give right and access to official information held by public institutions, private entities which perform public functions with public funds. Dr. Bawumia added that in their quest to combat corruption, government is willing to ensure that the bill gets before parliament by the 23 rd  of March 2018 as promised. One Village One Dam to Take Off in Three Northern Regions

Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia at the annual "Paara Gbielle" festival of Chiefs in the Upper West Region says government is ready to institute the one village one dam policy by the beginning of April in three Northern Regions. In the Vice Presidents address he added that the institution of the new dams in each of the three regions was going to give water all year round for farmers to have enough water to grow their crops. Government to Deploy 8700 CCTV Cameras to Combat Crime

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo says his government is keen on combating crime and has promised to provide all necessary resources to help the Police Service to eradicate crime in the country.  Aside plans to employ 4, 000 more police officers to combat crime ,government aims at restructuring the police service by deploying a maximum of 8700 CCTV cameras across all districts with three command sectors in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale. The President added that the Police Service is to ensure maintenance of these new tools and do their best to maintain law and order in the country. Do Not Sabotage Ghana beyond Aid- Hannah Tetteh

Hannah Tetteh, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs has commended the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for initiating the Ghana beyond Aid agenda; saying it is one medium through which Ghana can attain self-sufficiency. After assuming office the NPP government led by Akuffo Addo has focused on boosting the Ghanaian economy by putting measures in place to reduce government’s dependence on Foreign Aid. In expressing her concern, she said that this initiative should not be set for a long term goal but a medium term goal. She also added that the Ghana beyond Aid project was not just an NPP led initiative but admonished the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to view it as an issue of national concern that can help Ghana attain self-sufficiency in the near future. Mahama Led Government Housing Project Turns Ghost Town

Over thousand housing units built by the Mahama led government has turned ghost town over the past two years. The Saglemi Project worth $180 million has been abandoned with ongoing projects moving at a relatively slow pace. Reports indicate that the environment of the housing unit has been surrounded by weeds with no one inhabiting the building. The project designated to be sold to low income workers at a subsidised price has since 2016 turned ghost town. Government to Enhance Technical and Vocational Education

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo has said that his government is keen on enhancing Vocational and Technical Education in the country. In a National Conference held at the Koforidua Technical University, the President acknowledged that challenges in the area of Technical and Vocational Training hammering  on the lack of well trained teachers to teach courses and inadequate resources needed to accomplish practical work.  He added that his government was going to back this initiative not only by words but with financial support and an increased political will. He ended by assuring all gathered that his government will keep its solemn duty to the enhance economic stability by re-boosting the Technical and Vocational sector. Revising Presidential Age Limits Unnecessary- Kwasi Prempeh

The Executive Director of The Center for Democratic Development Ghana, Mr. Kwasi Prempeh has rebutted all calls by Former President John Mahama and former chief of Staff Kwadwo Mpiani to revise the constitutional age limit for Presidential Candidates. He described the initiative as needless and said there were other pressing matters that needed more attention. He added that resources should be channeled into creating jobs for the youth to curb the high rate of unemployment in the country rather than reviewing constitutional age limits of Presidential candidates. Ghana to Partner Nigeria in Fighting Crime

The government of Ghana says it will collaborate with Nigeria and other neighboring countries to combat crime within the African Continent. This was as a result of the recent criminal and terrorist attacks within the borders of Ghana and Nigeria.   The Minister in charge of National Security, Mr. Bryan Acheampong said in a forum dubbed “Exchange of Good Practices on Legislation of Security Related Committees in the National Assembly of Nigeria and Parliament of Ghana at the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Centre that there was a need for government to establish cordial relationship with neighboring countries to fight security threats in the African sub-region. Ghana Immigration Repatriates Businessman

Mr Ashock Kumar Sivaram Manager of Jai Mai Communications has been repatriated by the Ghana Immigration Service following the expiration of his work permit. Served a noticeto leave on the 9 th of March 2018 the Ghana Immigration Service quoted that the presence of Mr Ashock Kumar Sivaram in the country was not in accordance with Section 20 of the Immigration Act 2000(Act 573). Following the decision of GIS to repatriate Ashock Kumar Sivaram, workers have lunched a demonstration at their work premises advocating for the return of their boss. Workers during the demonstration yesterday indicated that the company had over 300 employees hence repatriating their boss meant denying over 300 people their jobs. Workers have pleaded with government to intervene and extend the work permit of their boss. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court have held that the businessman be repatriated rebutting the decision of the High Court to restore Mr Sivaram’s work permit and residence. Ghana Post E

Do Not Evict Traders, Move To Flagstaff House- Prof. Gyampo

Professor Ransford Gyampo a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana has expressed utmost dissatisfaction on the President’s decision to evict traders from around his residence at Nima for Security reasons. Traders around the President’s residence have been asked by National Security to vacate their premises latest by Thursday 15th March for security reasons. Although traders have been duly compensated with a sum of between Gh 3, 000 to Gh10, 000 to relocate, some traders have complained about the money being inadequate. Professor Gyampo views the actions of the President as absurd and needless. He added that the security of the President was key and as such the President was to move to the Flagstaff House where he can be guaranteed maximum security and leave squatters and artisans to continue their trade. Government to Organise Screening for Libyan Returnees

The Minority in Parliament are advocating for a thorough security check on immigrants that would be flown back to Ghana from Libya by the International Organisation for Migration. Meanwhile Minority Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said that reports from the Libyan Attorney General indicate that some Ghanaians have been involved in war activities in the country which makes it imperative on government to screen returnees for the safety of the country. Obiri Boahen Faces Disciplinary Actions

The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Obiri Boahen has been called by the steering committee to give answers to his false claims made in an audio that was recently leaked. The Deputy Secretary was associated with a leaked audio where he said the President had issued an amount of Gh50 billion towards a National Delegates conference held in Cape Coast and complained about how he had being side-lined since the party assumed power. After meeting with the steering committee, the Deputy Secretary has been asked to refrain from interacting on any media platform until they make their final verdict. The editor in Chief Of “The New Crusading Guide “ Kweku Baako   says Obiri Boahen   should resign upon the basis that he is a loose talker. The Editor in chief despite his close relation with the Deputy Secretary of the NPP Obiri Boahen said in an interview with Joy news that his friend was finished politically and there was a need for him to resign for his own good. He added that Obiri Boahen had breached the confidentiality of his party by alleging a sum of Gh50 billion given to the party for a delegate’s conference held at Cape Coast last year. The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo has re assured Ghanaians that the fight against corruption is in full flight with the office of the Special Prosecutor in action. Yesterday marking Ghana’s 61 st Independence Day, the President expressed dissatisfaction on how corruption had slowed down the development ideals of the country. Ghana’s Primary Education Suffers Financial Crisis

A report published by the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) in collaboration with the University of Ghana Business School Titled “Leaving no One Behind in the Health and Education Sectors” has brought to bare how pre- primary levels of Education suffers inadequate funding. The report states that funding per pupil at primary and kindergarten level has decreased immensely with focus on Free Senior High School.  Dr Abdul – Gafuru, Senior Lecturer of the University of Ghana Business School added that if Free Senior High School was targeted towards the marginalized in society, more resources could be pushed into the basic education sector. He advocated for civil society and other members with interest in education to mount political pressure by building debates for greater policy focus on pre- primary and primary education.
