Police withdraw criminal case against Alhaji Sinare

 The Ghana Police have withdrawn a criminal case against the National Vice Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Said Sinare. The prosecutor, Seargent Thomas Safo, told the Kaneshie District Court Thursday that the prosecution wanted to withdraw the case upon “further development in the matter”. The court, presided over by Ms Ama Adomako Kwakye, acceded to the request and discharged the NDC Vice Chairman. Charges Alhaji Sinare and one Tahiru Ahmed were charged with conspiracy to commit crime and possession of firearms without lawful authority. Said Sinare was invited by the police after the NDC Constituency Chairman for Ayawaso North, Ahmed Tahiru reportedly confessed to the police that Sinare had supplied guns to some youth to cause chaos during the upcoming December 7 general elections. #GhanaElections: Security Task Force will only deploy uniformed security personnel on election day

The National Elections Security Task Force (NESTF) has stated that only uniform security personnel will be deployed to polling stations to ensure the smooth conduct of the December 7 general election. It said the NESTF would not tolerate the deployment of unauthorised persons to polling stations by anybody in the name of the Police and other security agencies. "It is important for security agencies to present a robust posture for the 2020 elections,” the Director of Operations of the Ghana Police Service, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Dr Sayibu Gariba, stated in Accra last Monday. "That robust posture means that if you are not part of the security agencies do not dare deploy to undermine the 2020 elections; if you do so you will be countered with the appropriate force," he stated. Mfantseman MP, Ekow Quansah Hayford Shot Dead Whiles on the Elections Campaign Trail

The Member of Parliament for the Mfantseman Constituency, Ekow Quansah Hayford has been reportedly shot dead by alleged highway robbers. He was killed by unidentified gunmen while returning from a campaign at Nkusukum on the Mankessim-Abeadze Duadze road on Friday 9th October 2020 around 1:00am dawn. The Mfantseman NPP Constitituency first vice Chairman popularly known as Wofa Yaw confirmed the news. The body has been deposited at the Saltpond Hospital Mortuary, while police investigation commences. The robbers according to the report shot the driver of his car after he refused to stop when they signalled him. They then reportedly dragged the MP out of the car and started questioning him. The MP identified himself but that reportedly annoyed them as one of the robbers who was reportedly interrogating the MP blamed him for inflicting hardship on them. He was then shot twice, leading to his untimely demise.

Dormaa chief supports Mahama’s call presidential debate

The Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Council, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang-Badu II, has supported the call for the leaders of the two major political parties to hold a national debate, as Ghana prepares for the December 7 general elections. The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama, challenged President Akufo-Addo to an infrastructure debate on Thursday, 20 August 2020. Mr Mahama told the chiefs and people of Kwamekrom in the Biakoye constituency during his Oti Region tour that “he is ready to settle the infrastructure debate once and for all”, adding that “President Akufo-Addo is at liberty to select the moderators and the institution that he wants to organise the debate, and he will show up any day, at any time and anywhere.” Even though there has not been an official response from the incumbent President, the NPP says it is not in their campaign plans to debate the former President.
