Tension Brews In The Electoral Commission

Recent disagreements between EC Chairperson Mrs Charlotte Osei and her two deputies within the confines of the EC has rather escalated over the period. This has drawn the attention of many political pundits who find this inbuilt tension unhealthy for the Electoral body. According to political pundits, disagreement in the EC would go a long way to affect the referendum on the creation of new regions in October, district assembly elections in 2019 and general elections in 2020.

The chairperson of the Electoral Commission Mrs Charlotte Osei was accused of abusing office in breach EC Act 1993 and engaging in frosty relationships with fellow Commissioners. It was stated that the EC chair, Madam Charlotte Osei had not held any meeting with the commission for about a year. As a result, Mr Ebenezer Aggrey-Fynn a fellow commissioner wrote a memo which demanded the EC chair to arrange a meeting before 23rd February 2018 to fulfill the commissions' constitutional mandate.

In the process, tensions spark up and a body was selected to investigate the matter to restore peace in the Electoral body. Reasons given by the EC boss were that the commission had not held any meeting because of the peculiar and unusual situations the commission was in at the time.

Meanwhile after months of investigations, two commissioners  Mr Amadu Sulley and Mrs Goergina Opoku Amankwa have refused to show up for any meetings citing judicial reasons.
