Parliament vets Justice Torkonoo today

Justice Gertrude Torkonoo is set to undergo a rigorous vetting process in Parliament today, marking a significant step in her journey towards assuming the role of Chief Justice.

The nomination, put forth by President Akufo-Addo in April, comes as a replacement for the recently retired Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah.

President Akufo-Addo wasted no time in informing Parliament of his decision, emphasizing the urgency of approving the nominee swiftly. The President's rationale behind expediting the process lies in the desire to prevent any potential void left by the retirement of Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah.

As per the nomination, Justice Mrs. Torkonoo will face a thorough examination by Parliament to determine her suitability for the esteemed position. Parliament will then proceed to either approve or reject her nomination, shaping the course of justice in Ghana.

If approved, Justice Mrs. Torkonoo will etch her name in history as the third female Chief Justice in Ghana, joining the ranks of distinguished women like Justices Georgina Theodora Wood and Sophia Akuffo.
