The Electoral Commission (EC) has initiated the process of replacing Voter ID cards for individuals who have lost or damaged their cards in preparation for the 2024 general elections.

In a statement released by the Commission, this replacement exercise is scheduled to commence today, Tuesday, 3 October 2023, and conclude on Monday, 9 October 2023.

Michael Boadu, Head of Public Relations Affairs, and the signatory of the statement, announced the introduction of an online payment portal to streamline the process.

The statement also disclosed that applicants would receive an SMS confirmation upon successful transaction completion, which will serve as proof of payment during the process.

Meanwhile, the EC clarified that there will be no extension of the 21-day limited voter registration period, which concluded on Monday, 2 October 2023. Instead, the Electoral Commission will only register eligible Ghanaians who were in the queue on or before 5:00 pm during the final day of the registration exercise.

This supplementary registration will take place on Tuesday, 3 October 2023.
