President Akuffo Addo Addresses US Military Base Controversy: Opposition Reacts

President Nana Akuffo Addo in addressing the controversy over the alleged siting of a US military base in the country has explained that Ghana has no plans of offering the United States the space to set up a military base in the country.

He indicated that the USA had also not placed any such request to set up a military base in Ghana. The President advised all Ghanaians to ignore all “naysayers and hypocrites”.

He further admonished all to focus their energies on working together to archive the goal of a happy and prosperous Ghana.

Meanwhile, some members of the NDC have described the rather emotional delivery as extremely defamatory. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa a ranking member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament described the President’s speech as “intolerant and insulting”. The NDC Member of Parliament for Bawku Central also added that the speech came across as one that was attacking people he (the President) had a disagreement with.
